Quito |
The name derives from the Indians quitus, who lived in the zone prior to the Inca conquest and to those who the foundation of the 20th century city is attributed. During the domination of the Incas, they progressed as much that it got to compete with the Cusco.
Quito is 2,850m above sea level, in the heart of the Andes, on the foot of the Pichincha Volcano and borders the Machángara River, (near Guayllabamba); a few kilometers south of the equatorial line. In this altitude enjoy a tempered climate (annual average temperature of 14 degrees Celsius). |
Guayaquil |
The city was founded on 1535 by Sebastián de Benalcázar and shortly after left before the attacks of the Huancavilcas Indians; was reconstructed in 1538 by Francisco de Orellana
Located on the right border of the Guayas River, 58 km of waters above the opening in the Gulf of Guayaquil, it is the first city of the country by the number of inhabitants and its economic activity. It has important cultural, host center of three universities, numerous institutes, superior schools, museums and an interesting monument of the cathedral of San Francisco.
This city is a commercial center is very active and in continuous expansion. It has an excellent natural harbor, whose facilities are 10 km to the south of the city in New Port. 90% of the items are imported thru here and 75 % of exports occur thru here. The industry is very developed in the textile sectors, nutritional, mechanical, footwear, abacus, paper, chemistry-pharmacist and cement. |
Cuenca |
Founded by the Spaniards on 1557, Santa Ana of the Rivers of River basin yergue to 2,543 ms of altitude, on the northeastern slope of the mountain range from Chanchán, 120 km to the Southeast of Guayaquil.
It is an alive intellectual, host center of several universities (one of them founded on 1868). In their neighborhoods interesting incaicos archaeological rest exist and the same city conserves remarkable baroque aditicios of the colonial time, like the convent of the Carmen.

Ambato |
It is located to 2,600 ms of altitude, on the northern slope of the Chimborazo, to borders of the river homónimo. It receives the sobrename of "Ecuadorian city garden" by the primaveral climate which it enjoys throughout all the year.
Thanks to its favorable location on the Pan-American highway, the city is the center of commercialization of agrarian products (fruit, vegetables, cereals) of the surrounding region and counts on some nutritional, textile and lumber industries. |
Riobamba |
